RICHMOND — Shortly after being sworn in as the new Delegate for the 66th House of Delegates district, Delegate Mike Cherry (R-Colonial Heights) was appointed to the Education; Health, Welfare, and Institutions; and Cities, Counties, and Towns committees on Wednesday by newly sworn in Speaker C. Todd Gilbert (R-Shenandoah).
“I am pleased to receive these three committee assignments from Speaker Gilbert,” stated Cherry. “Virginians voted for change last November, resulting in a new Republican majority in the House. I look forward to working with my colleagues on these committees to deliver the change the voters asked for.”
“Delegate Mike Cherry is an excellent addition to the House of Delegates,” added Gilbert. “I am confident he will take an active role in these committees and play an important role in getting Virginia back on track.”
House committees are composed of 22 delegates from both parties. Meeting weekly, they consider bills relevant to the committee’s overarching subject area. Cherry’s work as an educator and previous service on Colonial Heights City Council will be beneficial on the Education and Cities, Counties, and Towns committees, respectively.
“There is a great deal of work to get done this session. I am ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work delivering results for Colonial Heights and Chesterfield,” said Cherry.
