Dear Friend,

With the end of summer rapidly approaching, I wanted to share a quick end-of-month update with you.

While the next legislative session may seem like a ways off (we’ll convene in January), I am busy doing preliminary work on several potential bills. I will be focusing on ways to support law enforcement, cut government red tape, and defend constitutional rights. I hope to have more concrete information to share with you in the coming months.

In the meantime, I hope the information contained in this month’s newsletter is helpful to you and your family.

9-8-8 Suicide & Crisis Hotline

A new nationwide suicide and crisis hotline was unveiled earlier this month that will allow individuals in crisis to dial a three digit number (9-8-8) to be connected with a licensed counselor. This new service is available nationwide and has the potential to help save lives.

Chesterfield Bond Referendum

This fall, Chesterfield voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on a $540 million bond package that will fund 26 projects across four different categories–schools, libraries, public safety and parks. This week, the County unveiled a full list of projects that will be completed if the bond package receives a favorable vote this fall.

Amongst the projects that will receive funding are several within the 66th district. These include replacing the Ettrick fire station and renovating the Ettrick-Matoaca Library. Overall, a successful bond referendum would allocate $375 million to school construction and $81.1 million to public safety construction.

A full list of projects and more information can be found on the County’s website here.

Tax Free Holiday

Virginia’s annual tax free holiday weekend is just around the corner! During August 5-7, shoppers will be able to purchase school supplies, clothing, emergency preparedness supplies, and other select merchandise without sales tax.

Included in the list of eligible items are school supplies under $20 and clothing and shoes under $100. Emergency preparedness supplies such as generators and chainsaws, as well as Energy Star and WaterSense appliances also qualify for tax free purchases. I strongly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity.
