As we head into this somber weekend, I am reminded of all those men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms. May we keep their memory in the forefront of our minds.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” –John 15:13
This month’s update will be brief as it was a relatively quiet month. I do hope to provide you with some useful information for the upcoming month of June.
Early Voting
Early voting for the June 20th primary is open! Voters in both Chesterfield and Colonial Heights have the opportunity to make their voices heard in several different primary elections.
Here’s when and where you can vote:
Chesterfield: M-F, 8:30am to 5pm; Registrar’s Office (9848 Lori Rd)
Colonial Heights: M-F, 9am to 5pm; City Hall (201 James Ave)
In addition to the regular hours noted above, both localities will offer early voting on June 10th and 17th–both Saturdays. Chesterfield voters: please note that satellite early voting offices at libraries are not open during primary season.
If you opt not to vote early, you may do so on Tuesday, June 20th at your regular polling location. Polls will be open from 6am to 7pm on Primary Day.
ICYMI: I am endorsing Glen Sturtevant to serve as our next state senator from the 12th district. You can read my full endorsement here.
Colonial Heights Tax Extension
Colonial Heights City Council has approved a resolution extending the deadline for tax payments. As a result, personal property taxes will be due on Tuesday, June 20.
Please note that due to an issue with the vendor who prints the tax bills, there will be a slight delay in receiving your tax bill (hence the need for an extension). Questions on this matter may be directed to City Hall by calling (804) 520-9266.
Chesterfield Treasurer’s Satellite Office
The Chesterfield Treasurer’s Office will open a temporary satellite office in the old Matoaca Elementary School (6627 River Road). This satellite office will be open from 9am to 4pm from May 30th through June 5th. This provides county residents another convenient opportunity to submit property tax payments. For questions, reach out to the Treasurer’s Office at (804) 748-1201 or treasurer@chesterfield.gov.
Thank you to Treasurer Rebecca Longnaker for her efforts to make local government more accessible!
Around the District
Though May was a quieter month, I still enjoyed attending different events and meetings around the district.
You may remember that in April I participated in a human trafficking roundtable discussion in Chesterfield. This month, I participated in a similar discussion with Colonial Heights leaders. Human trafficking is vile scourge that stains our society. I am looking forward to exploring new legislative paths to help tackle this issue.
Graduation season is in full swing! Earlier this month, I attended the Carver College & Career Academy award ceremony for seniors. I am so impressed with the graduating class, and I know they will go on to make great impacts in our community
It remains an honor to represent you and your family in the House of Delegates. If I can ever be of assistance, please let me know.
Sincerely,
Mike Cherry
